Winding Down to Election Day
As the election is drawing to a close, I want to take this time thank all of the people who have given support to me over the past 2 years. I apologize for not being able to knock on doors this election cycle, but an accident I had last March has caused me to curtail some of my walking. I did appreciate those who reached out to me through emails or who ran into me a numerous functions I have attended. I really enjoy the various conversations about what is happening in our town.
2 years ago, I opened a new business in Cheshire with my mission being fair and honest to my customers. I follow that same practice in my elected position. I vow to always be fair and honest with the residents of this town. Although you may not always agree with my decisions, I am always open to good, honest discussions.
As a homeowner and small business owner in Cheshire, I understand the burden we could feel with higher taxes. I will work hard to keep Cheshire affordable for all, while still making sure we have the services we are all accustom to. I will work hard to attract new businesses in town to take some of the tax burden off the homeowners.
School modernization has been a hot topic this election cycle. I was hoping people wouldn’t make it political, but unfortunately it became political when a group decided they didn’t like the option that was presented. I served on the school modernization committee and we sat through hundreds of hours of meetings with experts who helped us go through many different options. This group of 13, that in the end was 12, voted 9-3 to submit a well vetted preferred option to the Town Council and Board of Education. When I hear others ask why we are allowing 9 people to decide what option we are going with, I am insulted as are many of the other members of the committee. We were tasked with creating an option that will address the educational needs of the Cheshire Public School students as well as the fiscal impact it will have on its residents and businesses, and that is exactly what we did. We were elected to lead and it is time for all of us to act like leaders and move forward so we can present a referendum to the people of Cheshire.
As a reminder, if the referendum fails, we will be back to square one and I will assume, we will not have another referendum for several more years. It is important to make sure we can present an option that is affordable to all, not just those who have kids in our school system and we won’t have to put our children in temporary buildings.
I will always be available to you as your representative. I appreciate those who have reached out to me over these past 2 years, whether it was during the tropical storm we had in 2020, the safety issues we had at Mixville park, or the neighbors who had issue with other neighbors or businesses. I was there for you and I will continue to be.
I would be remiss not to thank my wonderful wife of 25 years, Jenifer. It is not easy being the spouse of an elected official. The hours we spend away from the family are enormous, but she recognizes my passion for this position and the importance of having good leadership. I am also running my campaign in the midst or our annual charity event, Cheshire’s Lights of Hope. My wife has had to pick up my slack on that end as well. She is truly my hero.
I thank you all for your ongoing support and appreciate your vote on November 2.
